What's in the Box

The Nanoleaf Lines and the Nanoleaf Lines Squared Smarter Kit were the two kits that Nanoleaf supplied us with. Similar to an LED light strip, Nanoleaf's light lines have LED lights within, but they face the wall. The light lines themselves and the lit wall behind them are well contrasted by the connections that supply and support the light lines, which leave a space between the light lines and the source.

With the Nanoleaf Lines Smarter Kit, you'll find the following:

  • 9 light lines
  • 9 connector caps
  • 9 hexagonal mounting connectors
  • 1 controller cap
  • 10 mounting plates with mounting tape pre-applied
  • 1 processor and power connector
  • 1 power supply
  • Quick start guide

The Nanoleaf Lines Squared Smarter Kit has all the same components, but you only get four of each of the light lines, square mounting lines, connection caps, and five mounting plates with tape. The mounting plates and mounting connectors are already put together.

Nanoleaf Lines Assembly

The Lines series' components may be combined in any combination. When we tried a layout with hexagonal and squared connectors, it didn't work. Using the hexagonal connectors, we went with a design that called for more lines than the kit's nine. The additional line from the Squared kit was added to our 10-line layout.

Install the Nanoleaf app (more on the app below) and go to Layout Assistance under the More tab if you can't seem to find a layout you're happy with or don't want to keep plugging and unplugging your physical set. To choose the Nanoleaf product you want to customize, tap the form icon in the top right corner. You may now adjust the number of hexagonal or square connectors you have, add or delete lines, and hit the reload icon until you get a design you're happy with.

Simple assembly is required. Just plug in the lines and then snap on the connection caps to finalize your design since the mounting connectors and plates are already built. However, you may want to hold off on that last step until everything is installed.

Nanoleaf Lines Squares Connector

Getting everything on the wall is the tricky part. We advise a dry run. It's best to try a few different configurations to see how they appear, where you could place the controller, and how you could run the cable from the power connector to the closest socket. Keep in mind that you are not required to place the controller cap on the power cable or the cable with the power connector; it may be placed anywhere in your design.

Nanoleaf Lines Smarter Kit Power Connector

Before sticking it to the wall, run a wall test after you've chosen a setup you're happy with. The Nanoleaf should turn on automatically if you plug the power supply cable into the slit at the long end of the processor (seen on the right in the image above). Plug the controller cap into any one of the connectors to run through the default scenes.

Nanoleaf Lines Controller

Nanoleaf recommends cleaning the target surface before you mount your design. The sticky tape could not stick correctly if oil, moisture, or dust were present. Pull back the protective tape sheet when you're ready, then mount it.

Nanoleaf also recommends that you “mount your layout all at once.” If you have someone to assist you, that could work. If not, you may mount your design in sections and use a level for some of the pieces. Just be sure to use “closed-loop” components; that is, avoid putting separate lines and connectors on the wall.

You may add the connector and controller caps after everything is placed and you're happy with the outcome. We didn't do it exactly this way, but we should have. The next step is to push down for thirty seconds on each connector after pinning your design to the wall. This allows the tape to fully adhere to the surface.

Design and Build Quality

Solid build quality. We were worried that one of the pins would break off when plugging and unplugging the connector caps, but we found there was nothing to worry about. Hardly any room for improvement was left by the straightforward design.

But there was one small thing. The company went with power cables wrapped in fabric for the Nanoleaf Elements, giving them a premium appearance and feel. Nevertheless, the Nanoleaf Lines cables' jacketing is made of plain plastic, which has a tad less premium feel.

Nanoleaf App Setup

The default set of scenes for each Nanoleaf may be run through using the controller. The Nanoleaf app is required to get the most out of your Nanoleaf Lines, however (desktop or mobile). Before touching the product, you may use the app to find a layout you prefer, as was already explained.

Should You Buy the Nanoleaf Lines Smarter Kit?

The Nanoleaf Lines is a designed LED smart light that fits any space. If you already have a set of Nanoleaf lights, this is the perfect complement. With other multicolor Nanoleaf products, we think it fits the best. If this is your first Nanoleaf product, you'll appreciate how simple it is to set up and operate.
